Volleyball FAQ
General RHS volleyball questions
- Do the coaches teach at Rolesville High School? Yes, we are teachers at RHS.
- Who are the coaches? The Varsity coach is Coach Harris, the JV-A coach is Coach Beirne, and the JV-B coach is Coach Taylor.
- Are the coaches experienced volleyball coaches? Coach Harris has been coaching volleyball for more than 10 years. Additionally, for the last several years he has coached club volleyball at Triangle volleyball club.
- Are the coaches mean or yell a lot? No, but we have high expectations. We want to get the most out of players and demand total effort.
- When are practices? JV practices from 2:30 - 4:30 and varsity from 3:30 - 5:30. We practice Mon - Friday.
- When are the games? The games will be during the week. We typically play 2-3 times each week.
- How much does it cost? "Free!" There are some expected expenses like practice shirts, but the cost is minimal (<$15).
- Do players have to practice everyday? Yes. Players are expected to attend every practice. Scheduling appointments and other activities should not be done during practice/game times.
TRYOUT QuestionsWhen are tryouts? August 1st
What do I need? All paperwork, complete/current physical, meet eligibility requirements When do I turn in paperwork? Anytime before tryouts begin. Do I need to have experience playing volleyball? Once students get to high school, many of the players have had experience playing. However, it isn't required. What should I be doing to prepare for tryouts? Participating in club and/or college camps and clinics are a great way to sharpen your skills. Will RHS have workouts before tryouts? If you are a current student at RHS, you should attend the optional workouts on Monday and Tuesday. If you are a future student, you will need to wait until July workouts. How many days of tryouts are going to be held? We are scheduled to have three days of tryouts. What if I can't make it to all three days of tryouts? We can only evaluate you based on the days you are here. The more days we see you, the more opportunity we have to work with you and guide you on the style of play. How do students know if they make a team? It will be posted to this website after the last tryout. What if I have questions after tryouts? Please ask Coach Harris |
Additional QuestionsCan I be a part of the team without trying out? Yes and no. If you are interested in being a manager, then you do not need to tryout. If you want to play, you must attend tryouts.
What does a manager do for the team? A manager attends all games (do not need to come to practices). They can do a couple different things: scorebook, run the clock, track liberos, or be a line judge. What if I don't know how to do those things? Don't worry, we will teach you. If I tryout and don't make a team, can I still be a manager? YES! What do I do to become a manager? Let Coach Harris know. |
